How to Plan Budget Friendly Winter Trip With Kids

Planning a family snow trip from Singapore sounds dreamy — until you start seeing the cost of flights, winter wear, accommodation, and attraction tickets. When we planned our first winter holiday with our 3 kids, I kept searching “how to travel to snow on a budget” and “cheap winter destinations for families from Singapore.” Eventually, I learned a few hacks — and they worked!

Here’s how we made it affordable, fun, and unforgettable.

1. Choose a Destination That’s cold, Not Pricey

Not all snow is expensive. Let’s skip Switzerland (sorry Alps!) and picked Japan (Nagano) and Korea (Yongpyong). If you want to go even cheaper, places like China (Harbin) or Taiwan (Hehuanshan) are rising stars and even Sapa (Northern Vietnam).

2. Book Flights & Accommodation Early

Please book flights in August for a December trip — the prices were almost 40% lower than if we had waited until October. And if you want to claim miles, you need to book at least 9 – 12 months in advance. It can save you a lot.

For stays, you should look up “budget family hotels near ski resorts” or apartment-style stays with kitchenettes, which helped us save on eating out and laundry.

3. Rent Winter Gear Instead of Buying

Instead of buying snow jackets and boots for winter trip — which ended up sitting in your wardrobe for don’t know how long. Renting is the wise choice.  It saves you over $300, and you don’t have to worry about washing or storing anything.
